Artifice was founded to deliver the DesignWorkshop modeling software to the architecture profession through commercialization. The ongoing work of Artifice provides me with a combination of professional practice in the development and delivery of architectural design tools, with developmental research as we continously extend the capabilities of the software. Our long-range goal is to demonstrate that a total building design system can be based on a fundamentally design-oriented core user interface.

Artifice has funded research in the Design Integration Lab, and has also licensed content and software to other new media publishers.

DesignView is a live 3D viewing application for DesignWorkshop model files. It is licensed to Van Nostrand Reinhold (New York) for inclusion in The Great Buildings Collection. It features a much-simplified tool palette to enable "out-of-the-box" 3D viewing in a multimedia context, plus integrated mark-up tools and image export capabilities for use in teaching applications.

Artifice provides professional 3D modeling and end user training services. Clients include Nike, Inc., for the NikeTown retail outlet program, Byron Preiss Multimedia, for the Ultimate Frank Lloyd Wright CD-ROM, and various architecture and related firms in the U.S. and abroad.
